Inherited paths

He attempts so persistently

to walk in his fathers footsteps

trying to stay in stride, lunging forward one foot after the other.

At times placing his foot perfectly in the damp sand where his father once stepped,

and others missing the print completely.

Victory and disappointment cross the boy’s face depending on the outcome,

And as the years go by and nature takes its course, the two progress into their places.

The father, now more older and worldly,

 proud and satisfied,

admires his young grandson playing on the beach,

attempting to walk, in his fathers footsteps.
